The inspiration behind the creative concept for the interior of Kanso hair salon draws from the tranquility and elegance of a Japanese garden. Japanese gardens are defined by simple lines and natural materials, the result of years of tradition and skilled craftsmanship. They are places where people come to appreciate aesthetics and find relaxation and contemplation.
Much like a Japanese garden, Kanso is divided into distinct areas, each serving a different purpose. These zones include a sales area near the entrance, a colour bar, a secluded hair washing area, the main working area, and the “academy,” a space dedicated to training. The simplicity of the space provides an ideal backdrop for showcasing the creative hairstyles crafted here.
The entrance area comprises a reception desk, shelves for displaying hair products, and a lounge where clients can receive professional advice on selecting the right products. The front area is separated from the rest of the space by the colour bar, where consultations and the final mixing of hair dyes take place. The workstations, each equipped with a full length-mirror, are separated one from another by shelves and small aisles.
The central design element is a partition made of wooden slats, which serves a dual purpose as both a screen and a shelf mount. This wooden partition separates the hair washing area from the rest of the salon, creating a deliberate contrast with its decor and ambiance. It provides a darker, softly lit space that allows clients to fully relax and immerse themselves in the ritual of hair washing and massage.
Recognising that skill is at the core of Kanso's operation, substantial effort is invested in training, which occurs in the academy - a section separated from the rest by a glass wall. Besides training the salon's employees, the academy also serves as a space for training other professionals. To foster an environment of focused learning, the academy is designed as a bright and uncluttered space where attention is entirely devoted to the art of mastering the craft.
